Pressure Switches
Is your pressure switch LEAKING AIR? If your pressure switch leaks air out of the head unloader tube that is connected to the discharge tube at the top of the tank, the problem is most likely a clogged or faulty check valve.
The pressure switch controls the electric power going to the motor. It measures the air pressure in the tank and is pre-set to turn on and off at specific levels. These "On" and "Off" settings are very important because all pump and motor combinations have a specific range of pressure capabilities that must fall within the pre-set pressure switch settings.
Typically, there are three different pressure range groups of pressure switches:
90-120psi
110-140psi
145-175psi.
Please see the wiring diagrams below. If your compressor has a starter (too many Amps for the pressure switch), use the wiring diagram on the right. Otherwise, if your compressor has the pressure switch directly wired to the motor, use the wiring diagram on the left.
